Classes & Weapons Overview - All Four Classes
All four ArcheAge Chronicles classes compared: playstyles, weapon options, strengths, weaknesses, and which class is best for beginners.
Quick Answer
ArcheAge Chronicles features four classes at Early Access launch, each with two weapons (eight weapons total). Classes differ in combat range, defense capability, and role in groups. The Demo lets you try all four classes briefly. No class is strictly better โ choice depends on your preferred playstyle.
Class List

The four confirmed classes are based on the Battlerage, Archery, Sorcery, and Defense skill trees from the original ArcheAge. Each class offers two weapons, with a third weapon planned for later updates. Official class names and detailed skill descriptions will be confirmed closer to Early Access launch.
| Class Type | Playstyle | Weapons | Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battlerage | Melee DPS | 2 weapons | Frontline damage |
| Archery | Ranged DPS | 2 weapons | Sustained ranged damage |
| Sorcery | Magic DPS/Support | 2 weapons | Burst damage or healing |
| Defense | Tank/Support | 2 weapons | Damage absorption and crowd control |
Best Class for Beginners
For new players, Defense (tank) or Battlerage (melee DPS) are the most forgiving. Defense absorbs damage and has high survivability, reducing the penalty for mistimed dodges. Battlerage deals consistent melee damage with straightforward combos. Archery and Sorcery require more positioning awareness and resource management.
Weapon System
Each class has two weapons at launch. Weapons define your attack range, damage type, and combo options. The third weapon per class is planned for a post-launch update. Weapon choice matters more than gear in early game โ a well-chosen weapon compensates for low stats.
